One Should Think Twice Before Comparing Prithvi Shaw with Virender Sehwag

Former Team India opener Gautam Gambhir has heaped praise on Prithvi Shaw but asked people to think hard before comparing Prithvi Shaw with Virender Sehwag. Prithvi Shaw scored a magnificent century against Windies in his debut Test. He looked a resemblance of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar and took on the Windies bowlers all around the park and scored 134 in just 154 deliveries which were studded with 19 fours.

Gambhir believes that Prithvi Shaw has just started his career and shouldn’t be compared with someone who was a legend during his time. He redefined opening batsmanship during his career. Gambhir felt that his one-time opening partner shouldn’t be compared with a newcomer. Moreover, he doesn’t like comparing players from different generations.

“Whoever is comparing (Prithvi with Sehwag) needs to think twice before comparing. Ultimately you should not compare anyone to anyone. He (Shaw) has just started his career and there is a long way to go. I have never believed in comparisons.

“He (Shaw) has got his own individuality and Sehwag had his own individuality. He (Shaw) has just started his career and someone like Sehwag has played 100 Test matches,” said Gambhir at a promotional event of ‘Vicks’ on Wednesday.

However, he never doubted the class of Prithvi Shaw. Gambhir said that Prithvi Shaw is a very talented batsman. However, he feels that Prithvi has a far bigger and far difficult challenge in his future. The tour of Australia will be one of the difficult tours for Australia.

“Obviously, he’s (Shaw) impressive. He’s very talented and that’s why he is there. The important thing is that he started off his Test career on a very good note but there will be far bigger and far difficult challenges waiting for him,” he added.

Prithvi Shaw has been a huge talent in the domestic circuit and has already made a name for himself. In 14 first-class matches, he has already smashed 7 centuries excluding the Test century which he scored last week. Meanwhile, Prithvi will look to be among runs even in the 2^nd Test.
