Ahead of the much-anticipated three-match Test series against England, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Executive Wasim Khan has said Pakistan have done a massive favour to England during the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier this month, Pakistan players and coaching staff landed in England for the Test and the T20I series.

Before Pakistan, West Indies had landed in England too for the recently-concluded Test series. The three-match series, which was won by England, marked the return of international cricket after action around the world came to a halt in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The series against England will mark the resumption of international cricket for Pakistan. And as the Pakistan players gear up for the series, Wasim Khan has revealed neither any formal deal was struck with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) nor was it the time to do so but Pakistan went ahead with the tour in these difficult times. At the same time, he stated that tour would benefit the team in the long-run.

Wasim Khan also hinted that English cricket team would tour Pakistan in future. He said that the tour of Pakistan to England is being taken in a very positive manner in England and this tour will be of great benefit to Pakistan cricket in future.

“Pakistan’s tour of England is being appreciated a lot in Britain. It will help us a lot in future,” Wasim Khan was quoted as saying by Pakistani news outlet The News.

A tour for the greater good:

Wasim Khan further explained the bigger benefits of the series. He stated that PCB’s decision to send its team for Test and T20I series to England was not just for its own sake but for the greater good of the global game. The PCB official stated that discussions will be held with the ECB in the future as he said he is hopeful of the English board making the best decision.

“PCB is now making decisions not only for Pakistan but also for world cricket. We have to understand that if cricket is not played for the next six months, the ICC will suffer financially,” he said.
