Pakistani Cricketer Tries To Set Himself On Fire During Match

While majority of players will definitely want to work hard or at most retire from the game due to constant selection rejections, Ghulam Haider Abbas, a young right-arm fast bowler from Pakistan, clearly does not think on the same line. The bowler tried to take the dire step of immolating himself during a first-class match at a stadium in Lahore, accusing selectors of demanding bribe to give him a chance.

“I have been performing well at the club and zonal level but they keep on ignoring me because I am from a poor background,” the pacer was quoted as saying by PTI.

Abbas entered the the Lahore City Cricket Association (LCCA) ground while a match was being played and tried to pour petrol on himself. But before he could do anything else, some spectators, who were enjoying the match of the Quaid-e- Azam Trophy, rushed and stopped him. The spectators then informed the ground officials of the incident before the officials pacified him.

“At the end, they finally told me that if I want to play for the Lahore team, I should pay them money. Today I came here totally fed up and wanted to end my life,” he added.

Meanwhile, the youngster is still not willing to drop his idea of immolating himself as he made it clear that he would set himself on fire at the main entrance of the Gaddafi stadium if his plea is not heard by the Pakistan Cricket Board.

“If I die, the east zone officials and the LCCA head should be held responsible for it because they are not selecting players on merit,” Abbas added.

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
