India’s wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv Patel doesn’t blame former Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s performances for his ouster from the national team.
Interestingly, Patel made his debut way back in 2002 to don the national jersey. However, Patel didn’t receive many chances after the emergence of Ranchi-based lad Dhoni in 2004.
Dhoni was successful in grabbing his chances and the likes of Dinesh Karthik and Patel had to spend most of their time on the sidelines.
Meanwhile, many people believe that both Patel and Karthik were unlucky to be born in Dhoni’s era. However, Patel said Dhoni would not have made the cut in the Indian team in the first place had he performed well.
Patel had made his International debut before MS Dhoni:
Patel said while talking to Gaurav Kapoor on his show Breakfast with Champions, “He (Dhoni) is a legend. There’s one thing many people tell me that You’re born in the wrong era. But I feel that we started playing before him. So, if we didn’t perform poorly he wouldn’t have played in the first place. So, instead of thinking that, I think it’s us who didn’t perform to our potential. That’s why MS came.”
Patel took the blame on his shoulders as he revealed that he was not able to perform to best of his talent.
“So to blame someone else that I was born in the wrong era and all that is to comfort you, but deep down you know that you have not performed that’s why,” the wicketkeeper-batsman added.
Words of Parthiv Patel make all the sense as he had made his International debut before MS Dhoni came to the fore. Parthiv was not able to deliver the goods on a consistent basis and thus Dhoni received his chances.
Furthermore, gloveman Dhoni was able to perform at the biggest stage. Thus, he was eventually able to cement his place in the Indian team. In fact, MS Dhoni went on to shatter all the records in the history books.
