English assistant coach, Paul Farbrace will be in charge of the England side for the T20I series against Australia and India.

Head coach Trevor Bayliss is expected to take a short break from international coaching duties. He will be in time to watch the 50-overs tri-nation competition involving England Lions, India A and the Windies A.

Farbrace will also witness a few county games. It will include the Royal London Cup final between Hampshire and Kent at Lord’s on June 30. He will then again return to his usual role of the head coach for the three-match ODI series against India.

It is slated to begin on 12th July in Trent Bridge. Bayliss has received a common criticism that he hasn’t watched enough county cricket to recruit the talents. However, now he has got an opportunity to check out a few fringe players who he might not see otherwise in the national set-up.

Unlike the Aussies, England has a pretty hectic schedule, and it will be a sensible idea for Farbrace to get a fair idea about the local talents and the countries.

With the World Cup just around the corner, it will be essential to recruit the talents now.

Farbrace was earlier tipped to take the role of Bangladesh head coach. However, he is now the frontrunner to take up the post of England coach after Bayliss’s tenure ends after the conclusion of the 2019 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Farbrace has turned down several offers of coaching county teams. He admitted it would be challenging to turn down the role of England’s head coach.

Following the departure of Bayliss, it is expected to change the coaching set up in the country. There might be two separate coaches for Test and limited-overs formats. It was Bayliss himself who recommended the name of Farbrace as a specialist T20 Head Coach.

England has been quite spectacular in the 50-overs format. However, it hasn’t quite been the same when it comes to the shortest format. In the last 13 matches, they have only won five. They failed to qualify for the final of the T20I tri-series also involving Australia and New Zealand.

The four matches against India and Australia combined will be the start of preparations for the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held a couple of years later.
