Hours after Shoaib Akhtar claimed that Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was considering him as a potential candidate to be the national chief selector, the board has denied the same. PCB is reportedly looking to name a new chief selector to ease the pressure off Misbah-ul-Haq.

The former captain is currently serving as the head coach as well as the chief selector. As per media reports, PCB wants someone else to take charge of the selection duties after Pakistan’s poor performance during the recently-concluded tour of England where they managed to win just one game.

Amidst all these, Shoaib Akhtar, on Thursday, stated that he and PCB talked over the possibility of him replacing Misbah as the chief selector. He also said that he was interested in playing a big role for Pakistan cricket, hinting that he was ready to accept the offer.

“I will not deny it. Yes, I have had some discussions with the board and I am interested in playing a major role in Pakistan cricket. But nothing is decided as yet,” Shoaib Akhtar said on Thursday during a YouTube show “Cricket Baaz”.

“I live a very comfortable life…I played cricket on my terms but now I have settled down. But I am ready to leave this comfort and try to put my neck on the line for the PCB..I am not afraid to give others advice. I will give time if the opportunity arises,” he added.

PCB denies Shoaib Akhtar’s claims:

According to Pakistan journalist Saj Sajid’s recent tweet, the PCB has quashed all the claims from the former pacer. The journalist took to Twitter to state the news, saying that PCB has said “they are not considering Shoaib Akhtar for any role.”
