In a bizarre turn of events, there is a petition to stop India men’s team captain Virat Kohli and former cricketer Virender Sehwag from congratulating Team India in ICC tournaments before an important match as they seem to ‘jinx it’. The petition started after Team India’s loss in the final of ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

India’s dream of winning their first-ever ICC Women’s T20 World Cup ended in a heartbreaking manner as Australia thrashed them by 85 runs to win a record-extending fifth title. The Women in Blue failed to deliver on the big day as they failed to do well with both bat and ball.

Meg Lanning’s decision to bat first turned out to be a right one as Alyssa Healy came out with all guns blazing. She and her fellow opener Beth Mooney set the platform for a big score by adding 103 for the first wicket in less than 12 overs. Healy scored 75 off just 39 balls while Mooney remained unbeaten and scored 78 to ensure the hosts put up a huge total of 184 for 4.

In reply, India came up with a horrible batting display. Unbeaten throughout the tournament, India were all out for just 99. Their in-form batter Shafali Verma was dismissed by Megan Schutt in the very first over of the chase and from thereon, India never looked in contention.

And in the wake of yet another loss for India in ICC tournament, a petition on Change.org was started by Abhinay Thakur which calls for suspension of the social media accounts of Virat Kohli and Virender Sehwag if they post congratulatory messages ahead of any big game.

The amusing petition was started on Sunday after India lost the Women’s T20 World Cup final. More than 600 people have already signed the petition. The goal currently is to get to 1,000 signatures, according to Manorama.

Thakur’s petition reads, “Stop Virat Kohli and Sehwag from wishing Indian teams in ICC tournaments especially in Semis/Finals. These both jinxx our victories..! Suspend their social media accounts if they don’t stop posting congratulations post”

Two users, who are likely to have signed the petition, also commented under it.

“This guy (Kohli) has so much negative vibes in Indian cricket,” one read while another user said that the Indian skipper brought bad luck.

Virat Kohli had congratulated the women’s team when they qualified for the final. Along with him, Virender Sehwag had also wished the team while stating that the women’s team qualifying for the final was a reward for all their hardwork.
