After missing first two games of One-day International series against England following a back injury, Bhuvneshwar Kumar got a call in third ODI. Besides this, he also missed all the matches of Twenty20 International series.
However, after joining the team again, he was expected to be fit but that was not the case.
During the final ODI at Headingley in Leeds, he was struggling with a stiff back. His inclusion in the team may be called as a suicidal move because of nothing more than desperation from Indian management.
Moreover, this resulted that he was nowhere in his prime on the particular day he often used to be. Having a horrible game, he bowled a really short line in order to prevent his back from the further damage.
The pace spearhead is now missing from the Test squad. Officials said that Bhuvneshwar needs to go for fitness tests first and only then his inclusion can be made.
However, it seems that he may miss the first half of the Test series now.
After watching a poor show from Bhubvi, fingers were raised against Indian physio, Patrick Farhat and physio trainer, Shankar Basu, who were men in charge.
BCCI official on Bhuvneshwar Kumar:
A Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official who was shocked with the series of events. He was unhappy with the Indian head coach Ravi Shastri of handling the situation.
“Please go and ask Ravi Shastri that question,” the official was quoted as saying by The Hindu.
“The moment we are saying he has aggravated his injury, we are conceding that he wasn’t fully fit. So if he is a vital cog in our Test match scheme of things, why was he risked for an ODI,” the official further questioned.
Bhuvneshwar and Injuries:
Bhuvneshwar, who is representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) decided to preserve him following further trouble with his back. He got a rest in five matches so that management can use him in the later stages of the tournament.
Inclusion against Ireland:
The fast bowler was included in the first T20 against Ireland which proved a big gamble for the Indian Team.
It seems that the Indian Team’s physio failed to access his condition because after his nod only he could have to get the chance.
As the test series is in the saddle, Bhuvneshwar Kumar had to play a bigger role.
“If despite being given rest during the third T20 and the first two ODIs, he wasn’t hundred per cent fit, then why was he allowed to play,” the official, in the know of things questioned. “Secondly, did Farhart report before the third ODI that playing him would be risking his injury?”
