A high voltage drama unearthed during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy tie between Karnataka and Hyderabad when confusion during the game resulted in the second game of the day being delayed.

During the first innings of the game, a shot had gone past the boundary, but the on-field umpire didn’t notice it and Karnataka were awarded just two runs, instead of four. However, R Vinay Kumar, Karnataka’s skipper, got added those two runs, which made the difference.

This, however, did not go well with Hyderabad camp, who protested against this move. Ambati Rayudu, the Hyderabad captain, said that he, along with his team, went to the field to play the Super Over as Hyderabad had a score matching to that of Karnataka (deducting those two runs),

There was some confusion in the middle at the start of our innings. What I went and told the umpire was ‘sir you cannot change the score, we are batting for 204 as our target’. That is exactly what I told him and he said ‘we’ll see it at the end, let the match start. The match was stopped for nine minutes, before the second innings. They had no business to stop the match once the target was declared. Then, what we said was we
were playing for 204, and that was my exact words,” Rayudu said.

“At the end, we went and asked to start the Super Over. That is exactly our point of contention. We never even thought of stopping the second match, that has got nothing to do with us. We were insisting that our match was not complete, we still have to play the Super Over. That is exactly why we went to the middle, we were actually going to warm up then,” he added.

It were the teams of Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala that were affected by it as there 20 overs contest was cut down to 13 overs per innings, due to the reason that floodlights can’t be used during the tournament, as per Cricbuzz.

Hyderabad’s protest would have been legit had they not been delivered the actual target but a report in IB times states that Hyderabad were informed about the revised target.

The Hyderabad batsmen didn’t leave the field after the last delivery was bowled and they were later joined by other members of the team as well.

BCCI is yet to come up with any official statement regarding the matter, and one could see a fine being imposed on Rayudu, only if he was not in known of the things regarding the revised target.

However, the player has denied any news regarding this, and it would be BCCI who will have to give a final verdict on the matter to clear the air.
