Pradeep Sangwan, Delhi’s vice-captain, has claimed an amount of INR 22 Lakh from DDCA for the spinal surgery that he had in June last year (2017), a report in ToI suggests.

However, the state association has decided to pay only half-of-the amount i.e. INR 11 Lakh.

In fact, the state association wasn’t willing to pay a single penny to Sangwan. It was only after a board official, who intervened that DDCA  decided to pay half the above-stated amount.

“They were not willing to pay a single penny. But when BCCI GM (game development) Ratnakar Shetty wrote to them, they agreed to give me half the amount. Now and I’ve been told that I am not entitled to get the rest of the amount,” Sangwan told TOI.

“Justice Sen is not available. His daughter Mrinalini looks after the operations in DDCA and it is only after Shetty’s letter that she agreed to pay half the amount. Senior players like Ishant Sharma and Gautam Gambhir also put in a word for me. But that has been ignored. Even the cricket affairs committee pitched for me,” he added.

He was also in doubt to play 2017/18 domestic season but recovered before the start of the second phase of the season.

Sangwan was appointed as the captain of Delhi for Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, replacing an underperforming Rishabh Pant. He did well and Delhi went onto win the T20 tournament.

Later, he also led the team in the first two games of Vijay Hazare Trophy in absence of Ishant Sharma.

Sangwan was a member of India Under-19 team that won the junior World Cup. He has also played for Delhi Daredevils, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Gujarat Lions.

In this year’s auction, he was bought by Mumbai Indians for an amount of Rs 1.50 Crore.

The all-rounder is expected to play a major part of the season keeping in mind his all-round abilities.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see whether DDCA pays the full amount to Sangwan or not.

The state associations have the responsibility to pay for the injuries to any player.

Sangwan has played a total of 54 first-class, 44 List A and 87 T20 games in his 11 first-class seasons till now.
