Praveen Kumar Allegedly Thrashes Neighbour And His Minor Son In Drunken State
Former India pacer Praveen Kumar had disciplinary issues both on and off the field through his short international career. While he was one of the best swing bowlers of his time, he did not really make the most of his talent with his poor discipline being one of those reasons. When he starred for India in the historic tri-nation Commonwealth Bank Series in 2008 in Australia, he had the world at his feet.
But in the coming years, things did not pan out well for him and he soon lost his place. He made it to news more often than not for his poor discipline. Whether it was the alleged street fight with a doctor in Meerut in 2008 or a spat with spectators in Port of Spain during India’s tour to the West Indies in 2011, Praveen Kumar always found out a way to tarnish his image.
Praveen Kumar in hot water again:
Even after retiring from the game, Praveen Kumar seems to be struggling as far as discipline is concerned. The ex-cricketer has once again landed in trouble for allegedly beating his neighbour and his minor son. The victim named Deepak Sharma has alleged that Praveen Kumar, who was in an inebriated condition, thrashed him and pushed his seven-year-old son.
“Both of them are neighbours and they have informed the police about the incident. We are investigating the matter based on their statements. Further action will be taken accordingly. The medical process has also been done,” Superintendent of Police (SP) Akhilesh Narayan was quoted as saying by ANI.
Sharma further claimed that the police refused to register his complaint and told him to approach the higher authorities as the case is related to an international cricketer. He also claimed that he has started receiving death threats for reporting the matte to the police.
“I was waiting for my son at the bus stop at 3:00 pm. Kumar arrived at the spot, came out of his car and abused the bus driver first and later abused me. He was in an inebriated condition. Later, he thrashed me and fractured my hand,” said the victim.
“Kumar also pushed my son who has suffered injury in his back. Now the police are forcing me to compromise. Moreover, I have started receiving death threats,” he added.
Praveen Kumar, on the other hand, is yet to comment on the matter. Kumar played 6 Tests, 68 ODIs and 10 T20Is for India, picking up a total of 112 international wickets. His last appearance for India came in March 2012. He announced his retirement from the game last year.
