Former India cricketer Pravin Amre has thrown his hat in the mud for the high-profile job of Team India’s batting coach. Earlier this month, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited fresh applications for the role of the head coach and supports staffs. The current management’s tenure will come to an end after the tour of West Indies.

The incumbent batting coach Sanjay Bangar has failed to deliver the goods, and the role will be up for grabs. India, under his tenure, has been unable to cement the number four batsman which has hurt time and again including the World Cup. Bangar has been with the side for the last five years under Ravi Shastri and Anil Kumble, but BCCI is not happy with his work. He has also served as the assistant coach of Virat Kohli & Co.

Pravin Amre, who has an illustrious CV, coaching various sides over the years, has now joined the race for the high-profile role. Amre has worked closely with Ajinkya Rahane when he was the coach for Mumbai Ranji team. The India Test vice-captain has time and again acknowledged Amre’s contribution to his game. The 50-year Amre has also worked with various Indian Premier League franchises latest being the Delhi Capitals. He worked as a talent scouter and helped Delhi procure young talents from all over the country.

The Mumbai-born former cricketer is currently working as a batting advisor to USA cricket. Pravin amre may have to give an undertaking of not being employed anywhere else if given the job. BCCI has given a deadline of July 30 to apply for the various positions. The selection committee, as per the Supreme Court-appointed CoA, will pick the support staffs.
