The Indian Junior team scripted history on Saturday by lifting their 4th U-19 World Cup title at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui by defeating Australia quite comprehensively by eight wickets.

It was a thoroughly professional performance by the young guns all through the tournament and their head coach Rahul Dravid deserves special mention for forming the formidable group in the last couple of years.

The Men in Blue hardly got challenged by any of the teams all through the tournament and finished the World Cup with six convincing victories which are the first for any team.

The squad has some promising stars in the making and some of them courtesy their impressive performances in the tournament has bagged whopping IPL contracts.

It was a good bowling performance by Ind, as they restricted the Aussies to a pretty manageable score of 216 runs.

Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Ishan Porel, Shiva Singh and Anukul Roy bagged a couple of wickets each while Shivam Mavi bagged a solitary one. Australia was in comfortable position at one stage with the score reading 182/4, but a dramatic collapse didn’t allow them to accelerate towards the end overs, as they were eventually bowled out for 216.

Openers Manjot Kalra and Prithvi Shaw got them off to a solid start and shared a 71-run stand between them before a terrific delivery castled Prithvi. Manjot who failed to get a three-figure score became the 2nd Indian after Shubman Gill to score a century from India.

He struck some exceptional shots, as India coasted home by eight wickets and with more than 12 overs to spare.

Following their triumph, the young guns celebrated their victory in grand style and one of their members Riyan Parag revealed they had practised it while playing Fifa together. Meanwhile, Bollywood actor and co-owner of Kings XI Punjab Preity Zinta was in awe of the Junior team and hailed them for their exceptional achievement.

Taking to her twitter handle, Preity wrote,
