Prithvi Shaw has further brightened up his chances of making it to India’s Test team with a sensational century in the ongoing warm-up game against New Zealand XI. The right-handed batsman, who started his Test career with a century, has not played for India since his debut series for the national team way back in October 2018.
Since then a number of injuries coupled with the doping ban barred him from playing. He missed the tour of Australia due to an ankle injury he sustained on the eve of the series. And he could not play a single Test in the ongoing home season because of being suspended for a doping violation. He returned to action in November and hit the ground running in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Ranji Trophy.
Prithvi Shaw scored 240 runs in five innings, including three half-centuries, for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He followed that up with scores of 66 and 202, his maiden first-class double century, in Mumbai’s 309-run win over Baroda in their Ranji Trophy opener in December. But he received another setback when he injured his shoulder during the clash against Karnataka.

But fortunately, the injury was not serious and he recovered quickly to depart for New Zealand to join the India A squad. His performance for India A is pretty much the audition for him to return to the Test side and he could not have started the tour on a better note. In the ongoing one-day warm-up game, the highly-rated batsman slammed a stunning century.
He scored 150 off just 100 balls as India A finished their innings on a mammoth 372 in 49.2 overs. Prithvi Shaw’s knock was studded with 22 fours and two sixes. Shubman Gill, who was India’s backup opener during the home season, could not get going and was out for 32. Out-of-favour allrounder Vijay Shankar also impressed with his batting, slamming 58 from just 41 balls.
