Prithvi Shaw. Whenever the name of this 20-year-old batsman comes to mind, talent is almost always the second word that finds its place after him. Prithivi Shaw is the latest batting sensation to have emerged out from Mumbai’s ever-churning factory that has given an innumerable number of world-class batsmen like Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma.

Prithvi Shaw first came to limelight when he broke a 112-year-record of the highest individual score by a batsman in an organized match when he shellacked a barely believable 546. And, Shaw achieved the during the same week when his idol Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar called time on his international career.

He was instantly hailed as the successor to the Master Blaster. He would then go on to equal Tendulkar’s record of scoring a hundred in his very first Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy encounter. In a recent Instagram Live session, the prodigiously talented Indian opener, Prithvi Shaw once again reiterated the influence that Sachin has had on his batting. Shaw revealed that he met Sachin when he was just eight-year-old and since then, the legendary batsman has been in constant touch, teaching him the basic nuances of batting.

He has had a big influence on me. I first met him when I was eight. He always tells me to play my natural game and according to the situation. Off the field also, he asked me to stay calm.” Prithvi Shaw revealed.

Prithvi further revealed that Sachin had asked him to change his batting grip, a piece of advice he immediately adhered to.

“I am a bottom-hand player and Sachin sir had asked me not to change my grip. I was young and I used to change my grip as per coaches’ advice. But after Sachin sir told me, I did not change my grip.”

Shaw has been constantly compared with Sachin but the right-hander hasn’t been bogged down by the comparisons. Instead, he is taking it as a challenge. He hailed Tendulkar as the ‘God of Cricket’, adding he likes to emulate his hero while batting.

“There is pressure when people compare me to him. But I take it as a challenge. I try to play like him. He is the God of cricket.” Prithvi Shaw added.

Shaw was recently seen in action during India’s tour of New Zealand.
