Priya Punia Names Rahul Dravid And Virat Kohli As Her Cricketing Idols

Indian women’s cricketer Priya Punia is one of the most popular sportspersons in the country. Priya Punia might have played quite a less number of matches for the national team; however, there is no questioning her popularity. The 24-year old held a session on Instagram, opening herself to questions from the fans. In the course of it, she named her cricketing idol.

Priya Punia named current and former Indian captains Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid respectively as her idols. While a specialist Test cricketer, Rahul Dravid was equally excellent in ODI cricket, hammering over 10000 runs in 344 ODIs. Dravid, who was known as ‘The Wall’ for his ability to bat for more extended periods consistently, featured in 164 Tests and mustered 13288 runs. He has also played a significant role in developing young cricketers in the country.

On the other hand, Virat Kohli’s status as a legend remains etched and needs little introduction. The 32-year old has an indefatigable penchant for run-scoring and he has a burgeoning record, especially in limited-overs cricket. Kohli is the only batsman from the present era to average over 50 in all three forms of cricket and is on track to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s tally of 18426 ODI runs.

Meanwhile, Priya Punia’s last competitive cricket was at the Women’s T20 Challenge that took place recently in the UAE. The right-handed batter was part of Supernovas, which lost to the Trailblazers in the final. Punia managed 41 runs in two games at a strike rate of 78.54.
