The U19 World Cup had always been a special tournament for the Indian fans. We came across the champions like Yuvraj Singh, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill and quite a few other superstars making most of the opportunity to make things fall in the place in their respective careers. Now, the Priyam Garg-led side got the chance to help India win the world cup and get the attention of all the stars and the key officials in India.

Ahead of the tournament, the young Priyam Garg catches up with the previous world cup-winning skipper Prithvi Shaw to learn a few tricks to get over the upcoming hurdles during the tournament. India’s Under-19 captain Priyam Garg has revealed that he sought former skipper Prithvi Shaw’s advice on planning and team bonding during his preparations to lead the side’s world title defence from January 17 to February 9 in South Africa.

Team bonding is important – Prithvi Shaw to Priyam Garg

Prithvi Shaw advised Priyam Garg saying about the importance of team bonding, which will help the players to give out their best to the team. Further, Garg revealed how Prithvi Shaw stressed the importance of planning and applying it to perfection on the field during crunch moments.

“Although I haven’t spoken to Virat sir yet, I have spoken to Prithvi sir a lot. He told me ‘your planning, your process and your team-bonding is most important’,” Garg was quoted as saying by ‘ESPNCricinfo’ ahead of India U-19s departure for South Africa.

“The more the team will feel a sense of togetherness, the better will they perform. Prithvi sir also told me that the team should know what their strengths are. He said that team-bonding played a big role in India’s success in 2018,” he added.

Garg led the Indian junior side during the tri-series in England in August this year, with his team emerging victorious in the tournament. Following his success, Priyam Garg asked to lead India during the Under-19 World Cup that will take place in South Africa in January-February 2020.

Before the Under-19 World Cup, the India colts are scheduled to travel to South Africa for three one-day matches against the Proteas U-19 side, followed by a Quadrangular Series featuring South Africa U-19, India U-19, Zimbabwe U-19 and New Zealand U-19.’
