Wasim Akram, the legendary former Pakistan fast bowler, has had the experience of working in both PSL and the IPL. While Akram was the bowling consultant for Kolkata Knight Riders till 2016, he has been involved with Pakistan Super League franchises like Islamabad United and Karachi Kings.

Akram recently appeared on the Youtube channel of former Pakistan batsman Basit Ali where he revealed that he is very particular in asking the foreign players about the major difference between the Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League.

Wasim Akram revealed that the foreign players have told him that the quality of bowling is higher in PSL as compared to the IPL and that they then can target at least one bowler in every IPL franchise which is not the case in PSL.

“But from whatever I have seen in the PSL over the last few years I have asked a lot of foreign players about the difference between IPL and PSL, when it comes to bowling. They all have said that the quality of bowling in the PSL is much better,” Wasim Akram told Basit Ali during a YouTube chat.

“In all IPL teams, there is at least one bowler who can be attacked. According to the foreign players, the quality of bowling is a lot better than IPL, according to the foreign players,” he added.

Akram, however, admitted that Pakistan Super League has not been able to produce promising young batsmen like the IPL has.

“If I have to name a few promising batsmen, youngsters who are doing well are Peshawar Zalmi’s Haider Ali and Multan Sultan’s Zeeshan Ashraf,”  Wasim Akram admitted.

When asked to compare both the leagues, the legendary fast bowler reckoned that it is not fair to compare both the tournaments as there is a lot more money involved in the IPL and the fact that it has been going on for over 12 years, as compared to PSL, which started just five years, and only had its first season at home this year.

“It’s not fair to compare PSL and IPL. PSL has just started, it’s just been 5 years since its inception. For the first time, it was held in Pakistan we came to know how big a tournament it is for Pakistan. PSL is the second biggest tournament in the World of T20 after IPL. IPL has matured. It’s completed 12 years and there is a lot more money involved in the IPL,” Wasim Akram said.
