South Africa’s run with injuries seems to be never-ending as wicket-keeper batsman Quinton De Kock has also been ruled out of the rest of the ODI and T20 series due to a wrist injury. De Kock injury has increased the batting woes for South Africa who are already without the services of Faf Du Plessis and AB De Villiers. Du Plessis has been ruled out of the entire series while De Villiers has been ruled out for the first three ODI’s.
After South Africa slumped to their lowest ever score of 118 on home soil, De Kock has been forced to sideline himself from the series due to a bruised wrist. Titans wicket-keeper Heinrich Klassen, who was included in the squad after Du Plessis was ruled out after the series-opener in Durban, is being lined up to make his ODI debut at Newlands on Wednesday.
This injury has added up to De Kock’s personal miseries as he has been struggling with his batting form in the ongoing series against India.
Aiden Markram who has been appointed as the stand-in captain after Du Plessis was ruled out might open the innings with Hashim Amla. Markram said, “My general game plan is to try and take it quite deep, bat through the innings and let our attacking batsmen sort of play around me. I try to keep it as low-risk as possible, and then as soon as we get partnerships building, we’ll chat between players and identify which bowler we’d like to put some pressure on and which guy we think we should just going low-risk. It all depends on the day as well.”
