India U19 coach Rahul Dravid has raised speculations over the disparity in cash reward awarded to the support staffs by BCCI after India’s title win.
Notably, India has won it’s fourth World Cup title beating Australia by eight wickets banking on Manjot Kalra’s unbeaten hundred.
The BCCI has announced awards of Rs 50 lakh for Dravid, Rs 20 lakh each for the support staff and Rs 30 lakh for the players.
Dravid, who is known for setting examples expressed his disappointment towards BCCI’s inequality. As per sources, Dravid requested that all support staff members get rewarded evenly. Dravid has also stressed the importance of no discrimination against the other members of the coaching staff.
Dravid mentioned the entire support staff had worked as a team, played equal roles in fulfilling the dream in New Zealand.
BCCI’s Supreme Court-appointed, Committee of Administrators on February 3 in a press release announced, the Board had allotted Rs 50 lakh to Dravid, while declaring the rest of the support staff – Bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, Fielding coach Abhay Sharma, Physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar, Trainer Anand Date, Masseur Mangesh Gaikwad and Video analyst Devraj Raut – would each receive Rs 20 lakh.
Addressing a press conference on his return, Dravid gently pointed out on the disparity stating the entire support staff had worked hard behind the scenes.
After the World Cup in New Zealand, Dravid acknowledged the contribution of the support staffs.
“It’s a bit embarrassing at times because I tend to get a lot of attention and focus, but it is really about the support staff and the quality of people that we’ve had. I don’t want to mention names, but everyone in the support staff has put in a great effort. We do the best for the kids,” Dravid said.
Dravid left his IPL franchise Delhi Daredevils to go ahead with the national team after a situation of conflict of the interest aroused. Dravid receives Rs 4 crore annually for a three-year contract with the Indian junior and A teams. The remaining support staff too works on contracted BCCI payrolls.
