Rahul Dravid Watches Barcelona Play At Camp Nou, Receives Warm Hospitality

Former India skipper Rahul Dravid is making the most of his time away from the game.  The legendary cricketer is currently serving as the coach of India U-19 and India A teams. However, with no commitment at the moment, Dravid flew to Spain to witness a game of football between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid on Saturday. Dravid, along with his family, watches the likes of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and Luis Suarez lighting up the Nou Camp.

Dravid, who has over 10,000 runs in both One-Day Internationals and Test, saw Messi and Suarez living up to their reputation as the two scored in the closing stages of the game to fire Barcelona to a huge win. After the game ended, Dravid was given a hospitality to remember for years. Josep Maria Bartomeu, the FC Barcelona president, handed the Indian legend with a customised jersey. The jersey had the name Rahul Dravid on it.

After that Dravid shared his experience of Camp Nou. The former batsman explained that it was a dream come true to watch Barcelona in action. He further said that cricket is still number one in India but football is also taking off with tournaments such as the Indian Super League (ISL).

“It’s incredible, it’s a huge honour, it’s one of the things I’ve always wanted to do, come to Camp Nou and watch a football game. To be here and experience the atmosphere, it’s absolutely electric. To be able to watch players like Messi and Suarez play live, it’s fantastic for me and my family,” said Dravid in a video posted on the football team’s social media channels.

Dravid further hailed Messi as a genius, saying:

“He’s an absolute genius. It’s incredible to watch what he does and to watch him live… One thing to see with Messi is how fantastic he is with the ball but it is incredible to see how good he is without the ball and how he is able to find spaces. I don’t think there’s been a better player than him ever. It’s fantastic to watch him live.”
