Kolkata Knight Riders star Rahul Tripathi’s parents Col. Ajay Tripathi and Saroj have expressed their delight over their son’s performance against MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings. Rahul Tripathi starred with the bat as KKR thrashed CSK by ten runs to return to winning ways.
After warming the bench for the first three games, the right-handed batsman finally got the chance in the playing eleven during the match against Delhi Capitals. But surprisingly, he was sent out to bat at number eight. But that did not stop Rahul Tripathi from making his mark.
The 29-year old, who is predominantly a top-order batsman, played a fine knock of 36 from just 16 balls although KKR lost the game by 18 runs while chasing an improbable 229. But for the CSK game, he was promoted as an opener and he grabbed the opportunity with both the hands.
He scored 81 off 51 balls to help KKR post a challenging total of 167. The score turned out to be more than enough for KKR as they restricted CSK to 157 for 5. The opening batsman was adjudged the Man of the Match for his fine display.
Expressing his delight over his son’s performance, Col. Tripathi said it was a special innings as he revealed his family’s connecting to Ranchi, MS Dhoni’s hometown. His mother Saroj, on the other hand, recalled meeting MS Dhoni while her son was playing with the wicketkeeper-batsman for Rising Pune Supergiant.
“Rahul’s inning against Dhoni is special because my son was born in Ranchi. Rahul’s mother (Saroj) is from Dhoni’s city. Her parents live very close to Dhoni’s house,” Col. Tripathi told Deccan Chronicle.
“Rahul has much love and affection for Dhoni. I met Dhoni when Rahul and he were both playing for the Pune team. Dhoni is a very nice and humble man,” said Saroj.
Col. Tripathi concluded by expressing his desire of seeing his son win more games for KKR. He also hoped that Rahul Tripathi would represent the national team one day.
“We want him to win more matches for the team. We hope his team wins the IPL this season. We also hope he plays for India one day,” concluded the proud father.
