Well, the fans of Rajasthan Royals might see a few of their matches playing in Guwahati Stadium. Though they opted Sawai Mansingh Stadium as their home ground for one more season, the officials of Rajasthan Royals have made a request to the Board for a change in venue for a few matches.

The Supreme Court-appointed Committee of Administrators – which looked after the cricketing affairs of the Board till October 23 – granted the franchise’s request in one of its meetings. Much like Rajasthan Royals, it is learnt that some other franchise also made a similar request.

Rajasthan Royals’ choice was Guwahati:

The other franchise has requested to play a few of their games in Lucknow. However, as per the reports on Sportstar, they have granted access to Rajasthan Royals while the news regarding the other franchise is yet to be known. Mostly, it could be Kings XI Punjab, as they always had issues with the venue.

Despite CoA term has concluded, the decision of the previous panel remains to stay, as Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI won’t like to change any recent sanctions from the board to the IPL franchises or the state boards.

“One of the other franchise had also made a request to play at Lucknow and Royals’ choice was Guwahati,” a member of the CoA said as per Sportstar.

We have had several discussions – Assam Cricket Association chief

Meanwhile, the Assam board is yet to get the official confirmation from the franchise. Despite the CoA official confirming the news, the Rajasthan Royals franchise is keeping things in suspense.

“The Rajasthan Royals officials have had several discussions with us and it would be a great thing for the entire northeast if the IPL matches are held here. But as of now, we haven’t heard anything formally,” Assam Cricket Association chief Devajit Saikia told Sportstar.

So far, Barsapara Stadium hosted it’s first T20I in 2017 when India played Australia. Last year too, it hosted the first ODI between India and the West Indies. They also hosted a few women games.
