Rajat Sharma Steps Down From DDCA President Post

Rajat Sharma, on November 16 (Saturday) has stepped down from Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) President’s post, citing various pulls and pressure among the organisation. Sharma, who is a senior journalist, held the post for almost 20 months and had to go through difficult times.

The incumbent DDCA President took the chair amidst a lot of controversies when the organisation was miffed with various charges. During his tenure, Rajat Sharma had public differences with general secretary Vinod Tihara, who enjoys a fair amount of support base in the organisation.

Rajat got a lot of backing from former finance minister late Arun Jaitley to take over as the DDCA President. He has always been at loggerheads with former India cricketer and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir. However, after Jaitley’s demise, the tables turned to shift against Sharma with many office-bearers raising questions about his capabilities to lead the body.

Announcing his retirement, Rajat Sharma released a press statement where he stated that vested interests are working in DDCA against cricket. The former President also added that he is not willing to compromise with his honesty and transparency which led to this decision.

“The cricket administration here is full of pulls and pressures all the time. I feel that vested interests are always actively working against the interest of cricket,” Sharma said in a statement.

“It seems that it may not be possible to carry on in DDCA with my principles of integrity, honesty and transparency, which I am not willing to compromise at any cost,” he added.

Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see who take up the role in the absence of Rajat Sharma. Gautam Gambhir, who has found himself on the opposite side of Rajat, can be one of the heavyweights to take up the role in the coming days.
