Ramesh Powar named Interim Coach of Indian Women's Team

The supreme body of cricket, BCCI asked former off-spinner od India, Ramesh Power to hold the position of coaching. Tushar Arothe who resigned last year was the coach of Indian Women Team. As the position lies vacant now, BCCI direct former off-spinner to look after the Indian Women Cricket Team till they find a replacement or Tushar Arothe.

Camp in Bengaluru.

Ramesh Power will oversee the camp since the team lacks a head coach. The camp is scheduled to take place in Bengaluru from July 25 and it will terminate on August 3. He will be assisted by an assistant coach, Biju George. BCCI has already made it open to apply for the position as the application forms are available now. However, the interviews for the position could be held only after July 30, once BCCI GM Saba Karim returns to India from his UK tour. As per the sources, The former off-spinner has agreed to take the role till BCCI decide a fresh one.

“Powar had been asked to oversee the camp since the team does not have a head coach. He will be involved in planning with assistant coach Biju George. The BCCI has already invited applications for this post, but the process will take time,” a source said.

Samant pips Powar.

In an interesting battle, Vinayak Samant takes over Powar to guide the fortunes of Mumbai. It was learnt that Powar will be doing coaching for the team. However, after the meeting with the administrators, Unmesh Khanvilqar, the joint secretary announced Samant as a coach. He also provided the reason why Samant pipped Powar.

“They (Managing Committee) had said that there were some issues. There is a Managing Committee resolution that those who quit the job will not be considered again.”

It is worthy to mention that Powar had quit as the spin bowling coach of the MCA academy mid-way earlier this year.
