There used to be a time when Gautam Gambhir meant a terror to the opposition bowling line-up.

During the 2010-11 season, the southpaw was at his peak and was instrumental in many Indian team victories across formats during that period.

However, the same cannot be said now, as Gambhir has been out of the national team for a considerable amount of time and with the likes of Murali Vijay, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul going great guns; and a comeback is a distant dream for the former Delhi skipper at least for now.

For a long time, he has been focusing on Ranji Trophy to force his way back into the team.

Riding on an impressive performance, he did make a comeback during the home Test series against England in 2016-17 but failed to deliver and never got selected after that. However, in the ongoing Ranji Trophy so far, Gambhir has looked in ominous touch and has already smashed a couple of centuries en route to the Semi-finals.

During the 2nd day of their semi-final clash against Bengal, Gambhir became only the 4th Delhi batsman to notch up 6,000 runs for his state team. He reached the landmark on Monday and later he also went on to smash his 3rd century of the season and his 42nd in his first-class career. India international Mohammad Shami eventually dismissed the southpaw on his score of 127.

Meanwhile, the three other batsmen from Delhi who had scored 6,000 runs or more earlier than Gambhir are Mithun Manhas, Ajay Sharma and Raman Lamba. While Manhas leads the chart with 7911 runs, Ajay is at the 2nd position with 7421 runs behind his belt. The 3rd on the list is Raman Lamba with 6346 runs.

Gambhir is having a pretty impressive season so far. Barring the three tons, he also missed out on a couple of them. While he scored 86 in an earlier group game, the southpaw scored a fluent 95 in the quarter-final against Madhya Pradesh in Vishakpatnam last week.
