Luck seems to have completely deserted South Africa in the ongoing World Cup. Things are just falling into place for the Proteas as they stand on the verge of an early elimination from the contest. And at a time they would have liked to concentrate fully on the remaining matches, they have suffered yet another injury setback. Their middle-order batsman Rassie van der Dussen is doubtful for the upcoming clash against West Indies on June 10.

Van der Dussen had strained his groin while fielding in Wednesday’s six-wicket loss to India. He had left the field and did not return as a precaution. According to a CSA spokesperson, Van der Dussen will be monitored at training on Saturday and Sunday to gauge the seriousness of the injury.

In case the middle-order batsman fails to recover, Aiden Markram is likely to be recalled into the playing eleven. Missing the right-handed batsman will be a big blow for beleaguered South Africa as Van der Dussen has looked in decent touch, registering scores of 50, 41 and 22 so far.

Van der Dussen, nonetheless is not the only injury concern for the Proteas. Their fast-bowler Lungi Ngidi is also nursing a hamstring injury at the moment. Ngidi had missed the clash against India after suffering the injury during the 21-run defeat at the hands of South Africa.

South Africa are staring down the barrel at the moment. With three losses from the opening three games, they are now standing on the verge of elimination. A defeat against West Indies will all but seal their fate this World Cup. They are most likely needed to win all of their remaining six games to stand a chance of progressing ahead.
