Ravi Shastri Reveals How Indian Cricketers Reacted After He Was Reappointed As Head Coach

India head coach Ravi Shastri has revealed how the members of the Indian cricket team reacted after he was reappointed as head coach. In an interview with Times of India, Shastri said that players were very happy to hear that he has been reappointed for another two years.

“They were very happy. The boys walked up to me and conveyed what they felt and there was a general sense of agreement that we’ve got to buckle up once again and start looking forward,” he told TOI.

Shastri, who is currently on a 45-day extended stay as head coach, will take over his second full-time term from the month of September. He, along with other coaches, was given an extension of 45 days since the board hadn’t started the procedure to appoint new coaches after World Cup 2019.

The procedure saw as many as 2000 coaches throwing their hats for various positions. A total of six candidates were shortlisted for the head coach job.

Apart from Shastri, who was an automatic entrant, Tom Moody, Mike Hesson, Lalchand Rajput, Robin Singh and Phil Simmons were shortlisted. Simmons withdrew his name on the day of the interview.

After the Kapil Dev-headed interviewed the five candidates, Shastri was adjudged as the winner after a close contest. Veteran Tom Moody was third on the list of CAC. Hesson, who had coached New Zealand for six years, highly impressed the three-member panel and was the second preference.

BCCI will now start the procedure to appoint other members of Shastri’s coaching staff from tomorrow. Five-member selection panel headed by MSK Prasad will take a call on other positions.

Former India opener Viram Rathour is exected to replace Sanjay Bangar as the batting coach of India. Bangar joined India’s backroom staff in 2014, along with Shastri. He was with the team during Anil Kumble’s one-year tenure as well.

Bharat Arun, the bowling coach, is expected to keep his job he has done brilliant work as the bowling coach and has covered all the areas. He had rejoined team backroom staff when Shastri made comeback as head coach in 2017.

In the fielding department, R Sridhar should keep his job but he will have a tough competition against Jonty Rhodes.

The latter is considered the best fielder to have ever played the game. India has become one of the best fielding sides under Sridhar, that should see him keep the position.
