Indian field has come off age by leaps and bounds in the past 20 years. The revolution started with the likes of Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif at the turn of century.
Since then, Indian cricket has been blessed with a plethora of world-class fielders like Suresh Raina, Ajinkya Rahane, Virat Kohli but Ravindra Jadeja seems to have taken it to a completely different level thanks to his rocket throw and his ability to cover the outfield at lightning speed.
“I think, in world cricket, there is no better fielder than Jadeja, an overall fielder. Maybe he doesn’t field at slip and gully, but no one is better than him in throwing,” Gautam Gambhir said on Star Sports show ‘Cricket Connected’
“No one covers the outfield like him. Put him at point or cover, you can get him to field anywhere. No one has a safer pair of hands than him. Ravindra Jadeja, probably is the best fielder in world cricket.” he added.
Jonty Rhodes recently hailed Ravindra Jadeja for his commitment
Earlier Jonty Rhodes, someone who revolutionized the role of fielding, had hailed Ravindra Jadeja for his commitment and his ability to anticipate the ball.
“Jaddu has taken some fantastic catches. The key is he is very committed. He is very good at anticipating the ball also,” Jonty Rhodes told Suresh Raina during an Instagram Live session.
Asked to name his favorite all-time fielders, the 50-year-old had said:
“I love to watch AB (de Villiers) batting or fielding. (Martin) Guptill is there. Jaddu. Also Michael Bevan, he had excellent speed. Also Jaddu has great speed on the field.” Rhodes said.
Recently, Steven Smith, during a Q-A session with fans on Instagram, had also hailed Ravindra Jadeja as the best fielder of the modern era.
