Indian star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will take no further part in the ongoing T20I series against Australia in the latter’s backyard. India, who lead the T20I series, owed a lot to Ravindra Jadeja for his explosive finish at the back end in the opening game as his innings of 44 from 23 balls lifted India to a competitive total of 161. BCCI has named the southpaw’s replacement as paceman Shardul Thakur, who played in the third ODI.

Ravindra Jadeja continued his excellent form from the third ODI in Canberra, where he played yet another handy innings. The Saurashtra all-rounder hammered 66 off 50 balls in the game, sharing a stand of 150 with Hardik Pandya to take the men in blue to 302 from 152-5. Jadeja, who could not taste success with the ball in the first two ODIs, also got a wicket and took an outstanding catch off Cameron Green’s bat.

Shardul Thakur, who played only in the third ODI of the leg, performed exceedingly well too. The 29-year old picked up three wickets in the match – that of Steve Smith, Moises Henriques, and Sean Abbott, as India picked up a consolation victory by 13 runs. The win proved decisive as they were able to carry the momentum through to the first T20I international.

While Ravindra Jadeja also had a hamstring injury, the BCCI reported that the all-rounder has been ruled out due to concussion. In the final over of India’s innings, Mitchell Starc’s bouncer struck Jadeja’s head; however, he continued to bat and battled both to propel India to a winning score.

Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal came in as his concussion substitute under controversial circumstances became the man of the match, owing to his bowling performances. Chahal turned the game around for India with his spell of 4-0-25-3, accounting for Aaron Finch, Smith, and Matthew Wade as the men in blue were able to take the lead moving forward to Sydney for the next two T20Is.
