Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) kept their hopes of Playoffs alive in IPL 2022 with an 8-wicket win over Gujarat Titans (GT) in the 67th match played at the Wankhede Stadium on May 19, 2022. This win took them to the 4th spot on the points table with 16 points and in this article, we explain how they can qualify for the playoffs after this victory.

Virat Kohli starred for RCB as they chased down a stiff 169-run target set by Gujarat Titans (GT).

Gujarat Titans (GT) had won the toss and Hardik Pandya chose to bat first. He played a captain’s knock of 62* and with contributions from David Miller (34) and Rashid Khan (19*) took the final score for the Gujarat Titans to 168/5 in 20 overs.

In reply, RCB opener Virat Kohli and captain Faf du Plessis presented the team with the perfect start as they added 115 runs for the opening wicket in 14.3 overs with Du Plessis scoring 44 in 38 balls before falling to Rashid Khan.

Virat Kohli also fell to Rashid but had made 73 in 54 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. In the end, Glenn Maxwell (40* in 18 balls; 5 fours and 2 sixes) took the team over the finishing line and RCB won the match with 8 wickets in hand and 10 balls spare.

Here Is How Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Can Still Qualify For The IPL 2022 Playoffs

This win took RCB to the 4th spot in the IPL 2022 points table with 16 points and a net run rate of -0.253.

Now the next match will be between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 20 and if RR wins that match, they will move to the second spot in the IPL 2022 points table with 18 points and a better net run rate than Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and qualify for the playoffs.

The 69th match of the IPL 2022 will see Delhi Capitals (DC) clashing with Mumbai Indians (MI) and this match will decide a lot for not only DC but RCB and RR as well – If Rajasthan Royals lose their last league match against Chennai tomorrow. If DC loses to MI, then RCB and RR both will qualify for the playoffs with 16 points each, leaving behind DC with 14 points.

However, if DC wins against MI, and RR loses to CSK in the 68th match of the IPL 2022, then RCB’s chances will be very low of qualifying for the playoffs thanks to their negative NRR. For them to qualify, they need RR to lose to CSK by a huge margin to drop below them in the points table.

Then RCB and DC will qualify instead. Currently, both DC and RR have more NRR than RCB. If DC and RR win their respective matches, RCB will be knocked out of IPL 2022.
