Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have made a good start to the IPL 2020 season by winning two out of their three matches. It has helped them maintain their position in the top four of the IPL 2020 points table. Former chairman of selectors Dilip Vengsarkar has backed RCB to break their jinx and bag the IPL 2020 title.

Vengsarkar said that in the shortest format it is difficult to predict the front runners but RCB will win this season with captain Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Yuzvendra Chahal performing well for the side. He also mentioned that Navdeep Saini has bowled well in IPL 2020 and he will be keen to see how the team progresses.

“In this T20 format, it is very difficult to say who the front runners will be. But I would say Bangalore are winning it this time, because they haven’t won it so far. Kohli, AB de Villiers and Yuzvendra Chahal will come good. They have a lot of good players in the squad. Pacer Navdeep Saini bowled extremely well in their first game (against SunRisers Hyderabad). So, I will be interested to see their progress in the tournament,” Vengsarkar, 64, told IANS in an exclusive interview.

“Well, the RCB could be the favourites — one of the favourites — but I can’t stick out my neck and say that X, Y or Z will (surely) win. But they could be one of the favourites,” he said.

RCB has the record of reaching three finals. RCB entered the final match last time in 2016 but since then they have been at the bottom of the table. Moreover, in 2019, the franchise  finished last with just 5 wins from 14 matches. The team chairman has also said that though the team is learning, not winning titles adds pressure.

RCB have been bolstered with plenty of talents in their ranks. However, they have not been able to make the most of it. RCB have played with the likes of Chris Gayle, captain Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers in their side. But their bowling at the same time has been questionable. Mitchell Starc has missed out on playing for the franchise owing to injuries.
