India selectors headed by MSK Prasad picked a 17 member squad for upcoming South Africa yesterday which saw the return of Shardul Thakur and Kedar Jadhav; however young Siddharth Kaul and Washington Sundar was left out. Virat Kohli also returned to the squad after taking a break from Sri Lanka’s limited over series due to personal reasons.
The experienced Suresh Raina and Yuvraj Singh were still not considered for the squad as the selectors backed the youngsters after their good show in the long home season. Notably, the veteran duo passed the much-debated Yo-Yo test, which they failed to clear ahead of the past series.
Chief Selector MSK Prasad said that Yuvraj lacked the game time and admitted he will be seen in future.
“With Yuvraj Singh, there were also the fitness issues. I am happy that he has cleared that fitness test. Since he has not played cricket for quite some time, let him have a good match time. We will definitely see him in the times to come,” MSK Prasad was heard saying.
