Rohit, playing his first Test in 2019 in Vizag, hit 13 sixes to come close to Stokes’ tally, who has 15 sixes in 2019. With his third six of the game, he jumped past Stokes and became the highest six-hitter in 2019.

Apart from that, he also broke Shimron Hetmyer’s record of hitting most sixes in a series. The Caribbean batsman had hit 15 sixes in the series against Bangladesh last year.

Rohit also hit the third century of the series. Promoted to opener’s role in the series, the right-handed batsman had started with twin centuries in Vizag. He could not convert his start into a big score in Pune.

In Ranchi, Rohit had a tough task in the opening session today but unlike other batsmen, he negated Kagiso Rabada’s pace and swing. Mayank Agarwal (10), Cheteshwar Pujara (0) were dismissed failed while Virat Kohli (12) also couldn’t do well as he was trapped in front of the stums by Anrich Nortje.

Rohit survived the first session and then brought up his century, which also came with a six. After 58 overs on day 1, India were 224/3. The play had to be stopped due to bad light and with rain also coming down, the chances of play on day 1 are quite bleak now.
