Ashes 2017: Resilient Glenn Maxwell Keen To Make Amends

There was a bit of surprise in store when the Australian selectors named the ODI squad, sans Glenn Maxwell, for the upcoming series against England. 2017 in particular, wasn’t a great year for the ODI setup of the Australian team by any means, as the Steven Smith led outfit had to face various hardships.
The ODI series loss in New Zealand was followed by a disastrous 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, as the Kangaroos returned home without winning a single game. However, the low phase came during the tour of India, as the Virat Kohli led Indian side feasted on the Australians.
A 1-4 series drubbing was perceived nothing less than sheer humiliation for the Australians. On the tour of India, flamboyant hitter Glenn Maxwell had to face the ire of the pundits for his rash shot selection and poor stroke play against the spinners.
The Victorian was dropped for the upcoming ODI series against England at home. Maxwell, though, is far from being dejected and is rather focusing on making amends for the near future.
“I was extremely disappointed not to be in that one day side, but I completely understood the reasoning from Trevor Hohns that my last 20 ODIs haven’t been good enough,” Maxwell said.
The Australian selectors here are missing an extremely critical point. Players like Glenn Maxwell are game changers, and such individuals deserve to be back as they infuse a sense of energy into the team. The decision to leave out a match winner like Maxwell, against a quality limited overs side like England, could backfire eventually.
“I felt like I went a long way to doing that by being the leading run scorer in the Shield heading into Christmas.”Even at the start of this Big Bash, I’ve played a lot more sensible, I’ve tried to be the rock for our team.”I feel like I’ve made big strides this summer, both technique-wise and mentally,” said Maxwell.
