Former India skipper MS Dhoni has been facing the heat on social media after donating INR 1 lakh to help the needy during the coronavirus pandemic. A number of fans have been trolling him continuously for his ‘miserly’ donation. The former India skipper donated the amount for the daily wage workers in Pune.

Pune is one of the worst affected cities in the country due to the pandemic. On the other hand, the daily wage workers have been hit hard by the government’s latest action to combat the pandemic in the country. On Tuesday, PM Narendra Modi announced a complete 21-day lockdown across India due to understandable reasons.

But the government as well as others have come forward to help the needy and MS Dhoni joined the bandwagon too. The legendary batsman, who is one of the richest cricketers in the world, donated Rs 1 lakh via crowdfunding website Ketto to the Mukul Madhav Foundation, public charitable trust in Pune.

Reason behind the donation:

While fans are slamming MS Dhoni for donating just Rs 1 lakh towards the cause, very few have any idea as to why the legendary batsman donated that particular amount. And after seeing the criticism that MS Dhoni is facing, journalist Vikrant Gupta has revealed the reason behind the same.

He took to Twitter to reveal the reason. He started his message by lashing out at the trolls before stating that the NGO needed only that much money to reach their goal of Rs 12.50 lakh and MS Dhoni made sure that they reach that amount.

“Such a shame people are trolling @msdhoni for the 1 lakh donation to an NGO. The NGO wanted to raise 12.50 lakh and MSD added the amount they needed. He isn’t the kind of person who would tom-tom about such things. For all you know he might hv donated more somewhere else already,” his tweet read.

Meanwhile, the cricket fraternity has stepped up to help the country during the testing times. The likes  of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir, Shikhar Dhawan and Pathan brothers – Irfan and Yusuf – have helped the needy.

Gambhir and Tendulkar has pledged to donate Rs 50 lakh for the cause while Ganguly has pledged to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh. On the other hand, Yusuf and Irfan have donated face masks while Dhawan has donated to the Prime Minister’s relief fund.
