The retirement of Mahendra Singh Dhoni from International Cricket has always been on the headlines for a while now. However, India yet to figure out the potential replacement for MS Dhoni, who can deliver goods behind the stumps and with the bat during the crunch times of the game. However, the former cricketer Virender Sehwag believes Rishabh Pant can fill the void of MS Dhoni.

There is no denying to the fact that young wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant is the frontrunner to be the long term replacement for MS Dhoni, whenever the former India captain hangs up his gloves.  The former skipper Virender Sehwag also feels Pant is the best option to replace Dhoni.

Although MS Dhoni hasn’t yet hung up his boots, the message from the Indian selectors and the team management is that Rishabh Pant is the No. 1 choice wicket-keeper batsman for India in all the formats. While it can be said that there aren’t many other stumpers who are even being considered as alternatives to Pant.

Speaking of the same, Virender Sehwag quoted that Rishabh Pant has already proved his class in the Test format of the game. He believes that Pant will soon show his calibre in shorter formats of the game as well.

“I think Rishabh Pant is the best one (option). He proved himself in Test cricket and now he may prove himself in ODIs and T20Is again. He is the best guy to replace MS Dhoni,” Sehwag said in an interview to Timesofindia.com.

Rishabh Pant can open the innings – Virender Sehwag

“He (Pant) will take some time. If he corrects his shot selection, he will serve Team India for a long time,” Sehwag told TimesofIndia.com. “I am sure in the coming three or four years, you will see Pant opening for the team. He has the capability to open the innings in the limited-overs format,” Sehwag said on sidelines of the launch of ‘The Selector’ app.

Well, most probably, it would Rishabh Pant, who would take the place for a long time in the Indian National Cricket Team. The selection panel and the team management has already confirmed it openly in the media as well.
