Wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson has been in fine form recent times which has questionned Rishabh Pant’s place in the playing XI. Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has warned Pant to step up to retain his place in the team with Samson breathing on his shoulders.
The Delhi-born wicket-keeper batsman is touted as the first-choice wicket-keeper batsman after MS Dhoni. However, Rishabh Pant has failed to put runs on the board in the recent outings against West Indies. Moreover, so far he has lacked consistency particularly in the shortest format of the game.
Pant has also failed to show maturity as he threw his wicket time and again at crucial situations. This has raised doubts over Rishabh Pant’s place in the team and many have backed Sanju Samson including Gautam Gambhir.
The cricketer-turned-politician believes Sanju Samson can give a tough challenge to Rishabh Pant. Gambhir also said that Samson is also his personal favourites and Pant needs to look after his back.
“Rishabh Pant is always exciting but he has to watch his back as my favorite Sanju Samson is throwing some serious challenges at him,” Gambhir wrote in his column for Times of India.
Sanju Samson has been in fantastic form in recent time for India A. He played a fine knock of 91 runs from 48 balls in the fifth unofficial ODI against South Africa A which Samson back in the hunt. But his domestic numbers don’t do justice to the talent of the Kerala batsman.
Sanju Samson has also impressed while playing in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals. He will have to show more consistency to break the Indian team’s door in the coming days.
