After failing to cement his spot in the Test team, Rohit Sharma finally looks set for a long run in the longest format of the game. The Mumbai batsman, who started his Test career with two back-to-back centuries, could not really get going in Tests. Inconsistency, injuries and most recently lack of chances never allowed him to become a regular member of the playing eleven.
However, the right-hander now looks set to get a longer rope in Tests. India finally tried him out as an opener in Tests and the result was stunning. Rohit Sharma hit the ground running by scoring two centuries in his very first Test as an opener in the three-match series against South Africa. He failed to score big in the second Test but made amends for it by scoring a career-best 212 in the third game.

With three centuries in four innings, he walked away with the Man of the Series award. The fans should now gear up for even better shows from Rohit Sharma as the batsman has made it clear that he means business in Tests. Rohit Sharma said that he is in no mood to slow down and wants to perform on every occasion.
“It was a great series but as long as I’m playing, there will be no time for me to relax,” Rohit was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald. “I don’t want to look back now. I just want to focus on doing well every time I go and play test cricket and focus on what are the good things that I did in this series and take that forward.”
The India vice-captain, who is one of the best players in ODIs and T20Is, further spoke about the challenges of facing the red-ball.
“Red ball does a lot more than the white ball. So you have to keep telling yourself that you have to focus more, and be more disciplined in shot-making,” he said.
“In one day cricket, once you get past that powerplay overs the field is spread. You can just take singles and rotate the strike and then odd boundaries here and there will come. But Test cricket is not like that. There are a lot of catching positions, so you have to be very disciplined,” added Rohit Sharma.
