Things turned sour for Nayar in the last season of Ranji Trophy. He had a forgettable outing last season. He scored only 130 runs and took eight wickets from five games before being dropped for the rest of the season. Earlier this year, he also could not make it Mumbai???s pre-season preparatory camp.
Before the last season, Nayar had enjoyed two blockbuster seasons. In 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons, he had netted a combined 1006 runs (average 43.74) and took 40 wickets (average 28.975) across 18 games.
Nayar is one of the most experienced cricketers in the domestic cricket at the moment. The southpaw, who represented India in three ODIs, has played 99 first-class games and 93 List A games so far.
In first-class, he has amassed 5,627 runs in addition to picking up 164 wickets. In the List A format, he has scored 1,932 runs and has taken 73 wickets.
