Suryakumar Yadav has been the talk of the town in the past few months. The stylish Mumbai batsman has been a consistent performer not just in the Indian Premier League but across all formats of the game in domestic cricket in the past 2-3 years.

And, so when the Indian team for the upcoming tour of Australia was finally selected, it was hugely disappointing for not only Suryakumar Yadav but all his fans after he was once again overlooked from the set-up.

But, Surya has seen such days far too often in his life, and so even though he was dejected, the disappointment and sadness for once again missing out from achieving his ultimate dream did not come in the way of his unrelenting desire to win games for his franchise, the Mumbai Indians.

MI skipper Rohit Sharma recently revealed the conversation that he had with Surya in the aftermath of his latest snub.

”We were sitting in our team room and I could feel he was dejected. But I didn’t go and speak to him. It was he who came up and said, ‘Don’t worry I will get over it and win the matches for MI’,” Rohit Sharma revealed to PTI.

And, that is exactly what Suryakumar Yadav did. The stylish batsman continued to churn out match-winning knocks for his franchise.

Following his sumptuous 43-ball 79 against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore- a game best remembered for his back-and-forth with Virat- Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, just like other former cricketers, had urged SKY to stay patient for his turn, and that is exactly what Rohit Sharma wants the 30-year-old to do.

Rohit further added that Suryakumar Yadav’s response to the snub made him confident that the Mumbai batsman is headed in the right direction and an Indian call-up is not too far away.

”And when he said that I also realised he is heading in the right direction not only in terms of IPL but in his overall career. There are a lot of India games and his time will come. If you ask me, my philosophy is mind over matter and that’s what works for me,” Rohit said.

Suryakumar Yadav finished off the IPL 2020 campaign as one of Mumbai Indians’ brightest lights after having racked up 480 runs in 15 games.
