Rohit Sharma, the Indian swashbuckling opener, is one of the leading batsmen of the modern era. Gifted with one of those rare gifts of timing a cricket ball with ridiculous ease, Sharma has established himself as one of the true modern-day greats in whit-ball cricket.

Rohit has locked horns with some of the great exponents with the ball during his era but if given a chance, which bowler of the past would the ‘Hitman’ like to face?

The Indian white-ball vice-captain took to Twitter on Sunday to interact with his fans via Question-Answer session, where he was asked to pick a bowler from the past whom he would like to face. And, Rohit’s answer was a former Australian cricketer and one of the greatest fast bowlers to have ever played the game, Glenn McGrath.

‘Would like to face Glenn McGrath’ said Rohit.

Glenn McGrath, who represented Australia between 1993-2007, was an epitome of discipline. McGrath, courtesy his pinpoint accuracy was a machine masquerading as a fast bowler, someone who would test the batsman’s patience bowl-after-bowl.

And, he got quite a few rewards for it. The right-handed fast bowler is the second-highest wicket-taker among fast bowlers in Test match cricket. In 124 Tests, the three-time World Cup winner claimed a total of 563 wickets at an average of 21.64.

McGrath was pretty damn good in white-ball cricket too. Besides being the most successful bowler in World Cup history, McGrath with 381 scalps, is also the leading wicket-taker for Australia in 50-over cricket.

McGrath, who has adjudged the ‘Player of the Series’ in the 2007 World Cup, retired from the game post the quadrennial event. Interestingly, it was the same year when Rohit Sharma made his international debut.

Sharma has then gone on to establish himself as one of the greatest white-ball openers of all time. The only batsman in the history of ODI cricket to score three double-hundreds, Rohit was at the height of his powers last year, where he not only became the first batsman to score 5 hundreds in a single 50-over World Cup.

Besides that, Rohit also finishes as the leading run-scorer in ODI cricket in 2019. The Mumbaikar was last seen in action during the T20I series against New Zealand in February.
