Rohit Sharma Set to Make Guest Appearance For US Baseball Team Seattle Mariners
India batting star Rohit Sharma is all set to achieve a unique feat as an Indian cricketer. The 31-year-old will become the first Indian cricketer to throw the ceremonial ‘First Pitch’ during a baseball match in the United States (US) of America.
The right-handed batsman will be doing the honours for American Major League Baseball (MLB) club Seattle Mariners at their home ground of Safeco Field.
It will be a part of a pre-game activity ahead of Seattle’s match against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Moreover, the American baseball clubs have traditionally invited a guest of honour – to throw out a ceremonial first pitch to mark the start of the game.
Rohit is currently in the US on a three-city tour. He will be visiting San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, and Los Angeles.
The Mumbai-based batsman is not a part of the Indian squad for the historic One-off Test against Afghanistan. Despite being one of the best limited-overs players in the world, Rohit is yet to cement his place in the Test team.
However, the limited-overs vice-captain recently said he is now at such a stage of his career where he can’t think about selection.
“For me, I am not at a stage to worry about whether I’ll be picked or not. I need to enjoy my game. The first five-six years of my career, it was all about “oh, will I be picked? Will I play!” Now it’s all about enjoying the game. These things keeps adding pressure on you. Instead, it’s best to enjoy yourself in what you do and give your best,” he told PTI.
When asked whether he was surprised by his axing from the Test squad against Afghanistan.
“I was not. As I said, I can only keep enjoying my game. There’s no time to regret about anything. I’ve had enough time to regret in the past. We have got big events coming up, so best to focus on it,” Sharma maintained.
