India opener Rohit Sharma’s injury is serious than it was initially thought of. The right-handed batsman suffered a calf injury while batting during his 60-run knock in the fifth and final T20I against New Zealand on Sunday. After the game, KL Rahul had said that his senior teammate would recover in a couple of days but he was wrong.

Rohit Sharma’s injury is quite serious. The batting star has been ruled out of the upcoming ODI and Test series against New Zealand. After clean sweeping the five-match T20I series, India will play three ODIs and a couple of Tests against the Black Caps.

Mayank Agarwal has replaced Rohit Sharma in the ODI squad while Prithvi Shaw has replaced him in the Test squad. And it looks like Rohit Sharma is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. As per report, the Mumbai star is unlikely to make his comeback before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 that starts on March 29.

As per a report in The Times of India, he had already asked for a rest for the South Africa ODIs and the calf issue has now ruled him out of home series. South Africa will visit India next month for a short ODI series. They will play three ODIs against the Men in Blue.

South Africa had visited India last year too after the World Cup but only played T20Is and Tests. Meanwhile, the three-match ODI series against New Zealand kicks off on February 5 while the Test starts on February 21.

The Virat Kohli-led side has started 2020 on a stunning note and have lost just one game so far out of the ten they have played. They beat Sri Lanka 2-0 in Tests, Australia 2-1 in ODIs before thrashing New Zealand in the T20I series.
