For the second innings in a row, Murali Vijay failed to deliver with the bat. The India opener had left for South Africa after scoring two consecutive centuries against Sri Lanka in what was his comeback series but failed to replicate those performances in the challenging conditions of Cape Town.

The right-handed batsman had scored just 1 in the first innings and 13 in the second before edging one Vernon Philander delivery in the slip cordon which was taken brilliantly by AB de Villiers. Meanwhile, despite doing not much with the bat, Vijay was trending on Twitter, and the reason behind it was the luck he enjoyed while batting in the second innings before being dismissed.

On the second ball of the third over, he was saved by the Decision Review System after the on-field had adjudged him out when a Philander delivery hit him on the pads. Vijay never looked at ease on the pitch, somehow managing to keep his wicket intact as South African pacers gave him a hard time. He rode his luck again in the seventh over when he edged a Vernon Philander delivery, but it landed in the no man’s land. Four balls later in the same over, he survived a caught behind call after reviewing the umpire’s decision. But luck finally deserted the Tamil Nadu batsman, and Philander deservedly dismissed him in his very next over.

Meanwhile, fans on Twitter were amused by Vijay’s luck and posted some interesting reactions. So here are some of those tweets:
