South Africa won the toss and chose to bat first in the second Test at the Supersport Park in Centurion. South Africa currently leads the three-match series 1-0 after they won the first Test by 72 runs. South Africa made just one change to their side, replacing injured Dale Steyn by Lungi Ngidi who is making his Test debut. Steyn suffered a torn tissue on his heel during the first innings of the first Test and had been ruled out for at least six months.

On the other hand, India made three changes to their side, with just one dynamic change of Wriddhiman Saha who sustained a hamstring injury during practice. Parthiv Patel replaced Saha. The other two changes have raised some raised some questions on the decision making of the management as Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were replaced by KL Rahul and Ishant Sharma. However, Ajinkya Rahane who got the backing from many former cricketers was again ignored for the second Test.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was India’s star performer with the ball in the first test as he gave India early breakthroughs in the first innings of the first and finished the match with six wickets. Dhawan, on the other hand, was dropped from the side after failing in the first Test.
