Team India sprung a big surprise when it came out to field in the third and last session on the fourth day of the ongoing third Test against South Africa with Dinesh Karthik donning the wicketkeeping gloves instead of Parthiv Patel.

Karthik, who last played a Test way back in 2010,  was recalled to the Test side for the ongoing Test after Wriddhiman Saha was ruled out with an injury. There were speculations that the Tamil Nadu veteran would keep the wickets for the ongoing game following Patel’s dismal show in the second Test but the latter managed to retain his place and did reasonably well.

However, Patel’s participation in the match came to a premature end with reports suggesting that the Gujarat star failed to take to the field with a suspected broken finger. Fortunately for India, they had a backup wicketkeeper, and they managed to hand him over the wicketkeeping duties according to the new rules which allow a team to have a substitute for the keeper.
