SA vs IND: South Africa Commits Indian Flag Faux Pas In Cape Town

At a time when Virat Kohli and his teammates are gearing up to fly the Indian tri-color high in South Africa, they would have surely taken aback to see a blunder being made by the hosts involving the Indian flag.

The Indian tri-color was being initially hoisted upside down at Cape Town’s Newlands Stadium where the Indian team was practicing ahead of the first Test before the ground officials realized their mistake and corrected it. Just like any tour, the Indian national flag was hoisted just to the right of the press box of the stadium alongside the flags of South Africa and that of Cricket South Africa.

However, in doing so, the ground officials hoisted the flag upside down as the green was on top while the saffron was at the bottom. According to Hindustan Times, the flag stayed like that for the earlier part of the Indian team training till someone noticed and quickly hoisted it again the right way.

Meanwhile, India will be looking to make a strong start to the three-match series. With history and stats not on their side, the odds are stacked firmly against India. The visitors have managed to win just 2 of the 17 Tests they have played in South Africa since the first visit in 1992 and are yet to win a series on the African soil with the 1-1 result in 2010-11 being their best return. However, expectations are sky high from the current side which has won nine consecutive Test series including the 3-0 against South Africa at home in 2015.
