SA vs IND 2018: Twitter Reacts As Dinesh Karthik Gets Test Recall After Eight Years
Dinesh Karthik has been recalled to the Test side after a long gap of eight years to replace injured Wriddhiman Saha for the upcoming third Test against South Africa. Saha has been ruled out of the ongoing series after he suffered an upper left hamstring tendon injury during training on January 11 and was replaced by Parthiv Patel in the starting XI for the ongoing second Test in Centurion.
Karthik will now join the team in the African country earlier than planned because he had already been picked for the six ODIs that will start after the conclusion of the Test series. The 32-year old’s last Test appearance came way back in 201 against Bangladesh.
Since then, he has been in and out of India’s limited-overs squads. However, the Tamil Nadu ace is now looking set to get an extended run in international cricket after his consistent performances in the domestic arena. He had a fruitful outing in the 2016-17 season and has looked in good form this season too. He scored 296 runs in four first-class matches which included three Duleep Trophy fixtures and one Ranji game. He has been batting impressively in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament too, scoring 211 runs including three half-centuries in five innings.
Karthik is likely to replace Parthiv Patel for the third Test after the latter’s struggles with the bat and gloves in the second Test. Parthiv, who was an automatic choice to replace Saha, managed to score only 19 in the first innings and dropped two catches in addition to failing to attempt a third regulation chance.
Meanwhile, Twitter was quick to react to the news as Karthik was included in the Test side after a long gap eight years. Here are some of the reactions:
dinesh karthik named as Saha's replacement. real dearth of keepers in the country it would seem. another crisis and MSK Prasad may have to pick himself or ask dhoni to come out of retirement! #SAvIND

This is the area where india starts missing @msdhoni 😢 . everything has an expiry date and I think indian team should continue with @DineshKarthik instead of @Wriddhipops . It would be beneficial for indianTeam @BCCI

Dinesh Karthik to replace Wriddhiman Saha in the squad for 3rd Test, and it’s safe to say, Parthiv Patel, in the playing eleven. #SAvIND

This doesn’t make sense. If Parthiv Patel was sent as a backup wicket keeper to SA, why is Dinesh K. replacing Saha ? Could anything be more stupid ?#IndvsSA@RaviShastriOfc @imVkohli @parthiv9 @Wriddhipops @DineshKarthik @sanjaymanjrekar @bhogleharsha @BoriaMajumdar @BCCI

Parthiv Patel v Dinesh Karthik, longest running saga in Indian Cricket. They were competing to be India's No.1 Test keeper two years before Dhoni debuted and they're still at it three years after Dhoni retired #SAvIND #dkvspp

Dinesh Karthik, one of Indian crickets nearly men, deserves his chance more than any other keeper in India #SAvIND

Saba Karim, Vijay Dahiya, Sameer Dighe, Deep Dasgupta, Ajay Ratra, Parthiv Patel, a list of forgettable wicket keepers between 2001 to 2005. Welcome back to the Season 2 of forgettable wicket keepers with Parthiv Patel, Wriddhiman Saha, Dinesh Karthik & many more. #WeMissDhoni 😭

Now Dinesh Karthik has come into the team. Let's play him in the 3rd test and see how he goes. If that happens, it might be the first time that we would play 3 wicket keepers in 3 matches of a same series. This was not a problem when Dhoni was around.

There were 45 wicket-keepers used by the various teams in the #RanjiTrophy 2017-18; yet, the selectors have no option but to look back at @parthiv9 & @DineshKarthik in picking a reserve keeper. Just tells you how bare the cupboard is, how poor the rest of the guys are.
