After winning the T20I series against England by a 2-1 margin, the Men in Blue began their campaign in the ODI series on a brilliant note as well. On a batting paradise at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, India managed to restrict England to a mediocre total of 268 in their allotted 50 overs. After winning the toss, Indian skipper Virat Kohli chose to field. This has been the trend in the limited overs format s far in England.

The Men in Blue might have picked their first wicket in the opening over when Umesh Yadav induced a false shot from the blade of Jonny Bairstow. The ball crashed on to the pads but the on-field umpire ruled it in favour of the home team. Virat Kohli didn’t go for the review either. However, replays showed that the ball would have crashed on to the top of the leg stump.

Kuldeep showed class

The English openers made most of the opportunity and shared a 70 runs between each other. It was Kuldeep Yadav who provided the maiden breakthrough as Jason Roy fell to a reverse sweep. He kept on the pressure with two more wickets in the form of Joe Root and Bairstow. Yet again the duo was bamboozled by the conventional delivery and the wrong un respectively.

It was a splendid piece of bowling by the youngster. He came strongly to bag more wickets in the form of Jos Buttler, Ben Stokes and David Willey. The way he flighted the ball and invited the batsman to play the drives was praiseworthy. On an unresponsive pitch, he turned the ball quite a bit. It was top class bowling by the youngster which eventually helped India restrict England to 268 in 50 overs.

England had scored the highest ODI score in the same ground a few days ago. However, Kuldeep was quite brilliant and didn’t allow England to cross the 300 mark. Legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar was in all praise for the youngster. He hailed him for bagging a different kind of a sixer in Nottingham.
